My aunt

My grandma just called us. My aunt Cookie had another stroke today. No details yet. My cousin is attempting to fly down to San Antonio tonight, but with the weather, that’s going to be difficult since there are already a lot of cancelled flights. She is supposed to call my grandma when she gets more details on how Cookie is doing, then grandma will call us again.

Keep my aunt in your thoughts/prayers, please.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

Wheee! We’re getting wintry weather! This doesn’t happen often, so it’s always something to get excited about. I still feel like a kid in school, plopped in front of the TV in the morning, holding my breath as I wait to see if my school is one that is going to be closed for the day. Granted, now it’s me calling my work’s weather hotline and finding out is a lot faster, but it’s still that same excitement at maybe getting a day off to play out in the cold. Haha.

The weather wasn’t bad enough this morning, so of course I had to come in. But it’s been fun sitting here, up on the 10th floor of my building; getting to look out my window and see the snow (and ice pellets) collect on nearby roofs and grass. The ground is still too warm for it to collect on the streets, but it’s so beautiful watching it all come down.

I’ve also snapped a couple of shots of the roof of the hotel next door. Keep in mind, I took them on my cell phone, so they’re not the best, but they’re better than nothing? The first one I took at 11:46am when the white stuff was just beginning to collect on the roofs:

And the second shot I took about 20 minutes ago, at 2:10pm. You can really see how much more has fallen in the last 2.5 hours. Hee!!!!!

Like I said, I feel like a kid waiting on school closures. It’s dropped down to 28 degrees now, and it’ll only get colder tonight. I’ve got my fingers crossed that it all freezes up over night and I get the day off work tomorrow. Heee!!! It’s been TOO. Damned. Long. since I’ve been able to play in snow or anything even closely resembling it.

I'd like to hear some funky Dixieland

A lot of my memories are tied into music. I hear a song, and a flood of memories of times gone by fills my mind. Most of the time, I don’t mind. Most of the time.

Every now and then, that can be a curse. Case in point, the song “Black Water” by the Doobie Brothers. This song always brings up a memory of a tv show long gone past. What drives me crazy about it is that I can see the scene almost perfectly in my memory; yet I can’t for the life of me remember the name of the TV show, or any of the actors in it.

I think the central character of the show was a woman. Where she worked, there was this tall, bald, lanky guy. I desperately want to remember who he was — because while the show wasn’t that great, he cracked me up. Anyway, the scene as I remember it: the female lead was very upset (I half remember her being in the hospital in this scene, but I could be wrong on that detail), and the guys in the office were trying to cheer her up. One person started singing the end portion of “Black Water” and one by one other people joined in until they had all the layers of that part of the song. The bald guy started jumping and doing this little .. shimmy as he sang his part.

So that is the visual I get in my mind any and every time I hear “Black Water”. It’s going to drive me insane until I figure out what show that was, and who the bald guy was. I think it’s been almost 10 years now, so I’m beginning to resign myself to absolute frustration over that memory.
